SOFIA JANE THORNE NAMED ATLANTIC 10 WOMEN'S TENNIS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
RICHMOND, Va. - VCU Women's Tennis freshman Sofia Jane Thorne was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week on Tuesday for the second time this season for her performances against Longwood and Richmond.
An Australia native, Thorne captured a 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 win on court one against the Lancers to help the Rams come back and win 4-2. Against the Spiders, Thorne picked up a 7-6 (5-0), 6-4 singles win on court one and a 6-4 doubles win on court two, partnering with Lea Malazdra.
On the season, Thorne has compiled a 14-2 singles record and 7-8 doubles record. She has won ten straight singles matches, with nine of the wins being in straight sets.
The Rams' next action will be on Thursday, April 17, as they celebrate Senior Day when they take on Saint Joseph's at 1 p.m at Thalhimer Tennis Center.
