THE SHORT STORY: VCU played a strong defensive game, but one Dayton goal was the difference in the opening game of the Atlantic 10 tournament. Despite Allison Karpovich's masterful performance, the No. 7 seed Rams fell 1-0 to the No. 2 seed Flyers.

- Dayton pressed early, breaking the game open in the 11th minute with a goal by freshman Laney Smith
- Karpovich opened the second half with her sixth save of the evening in the 47th minute, tying Grace Young for 10th all-time with 114 career saves
- Frilles sent a phenomenal ball-in to Matsuhisa, who got a head on it, but Dayton goalkeeper Batoul Reda was able to pick up a save in the 50th minute
- Paige Hoeger added VCU's final shot, in a last-ditch attempt to even the score in the 88th minute
- The Rams concluded their season, falling in the A-10 Quarterfinal match to the Flyers, 1-0
