The short story: After a defensive battle in the first quarter, Dayton used a second quarter run to pull away from the Rams
 
OPENING TIP:

• Mykel Parham had her seventh double-digit rebound performance of the year, leading both teams with 12 rebounds
• Mary-Anna Asare led VCU in scoring with nine points
• Dayton shot 61.9 percent from the 3-point line and 53.1 percent from the floor while VCU shot just 33 percent overall and 22 percent from 3-point range
• Ivy Wolf led the game with 33 points for the Flyers, going 12-for-15 from the field and 8-for-9 from 3-point range

 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The first quarter was a defensive battle, the Flyers outscored the Rams just 12-10
• VCU struggled offensively in the second quarter as Dayton outscored VCU 17-6 during the 10 minutes and pushed its lead with a 10-0 run to with a 29-16 lead
• Dayton led by as many as 26 points in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter before VCU made a 6-0 run got VCU within 57-37
• The Rams outscored Dayton in the final quarter 22-19
