Game Two: SLU 12, VCU 2 (7 inn.)
Location: St. Louis, Mo. (Billiken Sports Center)

THE SHORT STORY: VCU baseball fell winless on the weekend with a doubleheader against Saint Louis on Friday, dropping a close 4-2 game in the opener before the Billikens completed their weekend sweep in a seven-inning 12-2 series finale.
LEADING OFF:
- With a hit in every game this week, Adrian Jimenez extended his hitting streak into the double-digits, with a team-best 10 games
- Seth Werchan extended his on-base streak in the opening game of the doubleheader, but it ended at 21 games, the most by a Ram this season
- In the nightcap, Cooper Campbell and Riley Roarty were flawless out of the bullpen, going 1.1 and 1.0 innings, respectively
- Nick Frers matched his career-high 4.0 innings in his start, but was the pitcher of record in VCU's first loss of the day
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One
- A low-scoring affair opened the day for the Rams as Saint Louis added runs early and pitched out of a Rams comeback late
- Frers went three up, three down to start the contest, but surrendered a pair of runs in the second frame
- The Rams scattered a couple of hits across the early innings, but Saint Louis worked up a 3-0 lead through four innings after Frers tossed a scoreless third
- Holding off the host, McGrady tossed a scoreless fifth and sat the Billikens down in order in the sixth inning to keep the Rams within three runs
- Back-to-back two-out singles from Nick April-Gath and Flores drove in the first run of the day for VCU and forced Saint Louis to go to the bullpen in the seventh inning
- SLU took one back with an RBI single in the eighth, 4-1
- Attempting to claw their way back, the Rams opened the ninth inning with two singles from Sean Swenson and Seth Werchan before a wild pitch advanced the former home
- Two Billikens pitchers combined for the final three outs to secure the series with a 4-2 victory
Game Two
- After two early Billikens runs, Campbell entered the game in the first inning and retired the final out to strand three Billikens before coming out to face the minimum in the second
- Flores and Adelman singled back-to-back, setting Jimenez up for a game-tying double, giving the Rams hope to avoid the sweep with an early 2-2 ballgame
- Over the next three frames, the Billikens managed 10 unanswered runs and the Rams, despite doubling their hit total in the game, were unable to dig out of the hole
- Roarty tossed the sixth inning, retiring the side in order, but VCU couldn't produce the scoring to escape the run-rule loss, 12-2
UP NEXT:
VCU will return to The Diamond on Tuesday, April 22 for a rematch with the ACC's Virginia Tech at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at this link. The Rams will remain home for the weekend, taking on Fordham in a three-game Atlantic 10 series on Friday-Sunday.
