KNIGHT, RIENKS, DEL CORE NAMED ALL-ATLANTIC 10 CONFERENCE
RICHMOND, Va. – Graduate middle blocker Jasmine Knight (Phoenix, Ariz.), junior opposite Julia Rienks (Dronryp, Netherlands) and freshman outside hitter Lara Del Core (Busto Arsizio, Italy) were named to All-Atlantic 10 Conference teams Friday prior to the start of the league's championship tournament.
Knight and Rienks garnered First Team honors, while Del Core grabbed Second Team and All-Rookie citations.
For Knight, Friday's award is the fourth All-Conference selection of her decorated career, including the third First Team honor. The 6-foot middle ranks third in the A-10 in hitting percentage (.376) and is averaging 2.66 kills and a team-best 0.83 blocks per set. She currently ranks third in program history in both kills (1,244) and blocks (510).
Rienks, a transfer from Daytona State College, has powered VCU's potent attack with 3.33 kills per set, which ranks fifth in the league. She also ranks fifth in the A-10 in points per set at 4.05, while providing 1.31 digs and 0.63 blocks. Rienks' 31 aces lead the Rams.
Del Core has been a breakout success during her freshman campaign. She currently ranks eighth in the A-10 in kills per set (3.04) and has also provided the Black and Gold with 20 aces and 0.89 digs per set, while hitting .257. She is hitting .312 and averaging 3.29 kills per set in league matches, both top 10 marks in the league.
VCU's trio of All-Conference honorees will lead the Rams into the A-10 Tournament this weekend. The Black and Gold have won 14 straight matches and have secured the No. 2 overall seed. They have received a bye into Saturday's semifinal round, and will meet the winner of Friday's first round contest between Loyola Chicago and Saint Louis.
