VCU TAKES DOWN RICHMOND 4-1 TO WIN A-10 WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

The Short Story: Women's Tennis took a close doubles point and carried the momentum into singles to take down No. 3 Richmond, 4-1, to win the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday morning

Opening Serve

  • The Rams kicked off the championship match by taking an extremely close doubles point with Sofia Jane Thorne and Lea Malazdra grabbing a tiebreaker win on court two and Andrea Magallanes and Yelizaveta Karlova winning on court three.
  • Sophomore Mariam Ibrahim kept the momentum rolling for the Black and Gold when she captured the first singles match with her two-set win on court three.
  • VCU made the dual match 3-0 when Yelizaveta Karlova grabbed a 6-3, 6-3 win on court five.
  • The Spiders grabbed their first point with a win on court two
  • Freshman Sara Alba clinched the match for the Rams with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court six
