RAMS DOMINATE BONNIES, EARN BIGGEST WIN SINCE 2014

VCU won 81-37, a 44-point margin of victory

The short story: VCU led St. Bonaventure 10-9 with 3:15 left in the first quarter before going on a 42-10 run across three quarters to earn its largest margin of victory since 2014.      

OPENING TIP:

  • The 44-point win is the largest in the Beth O'Boyle era and the most since a 112-54 win against UMass on Jan. 2, 2014
  • The 81 points is the most scored by VCU in regulation since n 87-79 win over Saint Mary's on Nov. 25, 2020. VCU scored 83 points in an overtime loss to Saint Louis, 86-83, on Jan. 1, 2023
  • VCU was led by Mary-Anna Asare who had 18 points. She shot 7-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range in just 26 minutes
  • Zoli Khalil scored in 13 points and grabbed four rebounds and three steals
  • Lucia Sotela was the third Ram in double figures with 11 points and tied for the team-high with six rebounds
  • VCU had a season-best shooting night, shooting 57.9 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from 3-point range. The Bonnies shot 28.6 percent from the floor and 11.1 percent from deep
  • Zoe Shaw led St. Bonaventure with 12 points

 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • VCU opened the game on a 10-2 run capped off by a Hutson 3-pointer with 5:01 left in the  first quarter
  • The Bonnies responded with a 7-0 run of their own to cut the Rams' lead to 10-9 with 3:15 left in the period but that was as close as they would come the remainder of the contest
  • VCU began an 18-0 run following Ojeda 3-pointer jumper 6:00 left in the second quarter, with the run ballooning to a 42-9 run spanning from the end of the first quarter until the third quarter
  • The Rams led 52-17 with 6:35 left in the third quarter following an Asare 3-pointer
  • VCU maintained its lead until a 20-5 run capped  by a Natalia Tondi layup gave the Rams their  44-point margin of victory
