KANAGWA RETURNS TO RICHMOND, SIGNS WITH KICKERS
RICHMOND, Va. – Former VCU men's soccer midfielder Jonathan Kanagwa is slated make his return to Richmond this season on a professional contract with the Richmond Kickers, the USL League One club announced Thursday.
The Entebbe, Uganda, native spent four successful seasons with the Rams, collecting an Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team honor in 2023 and was named to the All-Rookie Team as a freshman. In his final year with VCU, Kanagwa helped guide the Rams to a 2023 A-10 Regular Season Championship.
Kanagwa was named to the A-10 All-Tournament Team in 2023 when the Rams made a run to the tournament final, collecting points in all three of the Rams' postseason contests.
Over four years, the midfielder tallied over 4,000 minutes of playing time, making 43 starts across 52 appearances. With four goals and five assists in his final season, Kanagwa finished his career with 13 points and a 43.2 shots-on-goal percentage.
Kanagwa will join Gerardo Castillo and Scott McLeod, both from the Rams' 2024 graduating class, as the third VCU men's soccer alum to sign a professional contract this year.
