CONKLIN SETS PACE FOR VCU IN CHAPEL HILL HOMECOMIING

The short story: Junior Jake Conklin recorded his second top-20 finish of the spring to pace VCU this weekend at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate in Chapel Hill, N.C.
 
FIRST TEE
  • Conklin fired a second-round 70 and finished 4-over (73-70-71) for the weekend to earn a share of 19th place. It's the second time in VCU's past three tournaments that the Chapel Hill native has finished inside the top 20
  • VCU (+39) placed 14th in a field that included ninth-ranked North Carolina and No. 16 Duke. The host Tar Heels (-1) held off Elon (Even) by a single stroke to defend their home course. Kennesaw State (+1), Michigan State (+14) and Duke (+15) rounded out the top five
  • Junior Braden O'Grady carded a second-round 68 and placed 42nd for the Rams at 8-over, while senior Caden Scarbrough (+10) opened with a first-round 70 and earned a share of 49th place for the Black and Gold

  • VCU and Michigan State recorded three eagles each in the tournament. Scarbrough was responsible for two of VCU's eagles
  • Conklin led VCU with nine birdies during the weekend
  • O'Grady's 34 pars were among the tournament leaders

VCU will set its sights on the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship April 22-24 at Evermore Resort in Orlando, Fla. The Rams are the defending A-10 Champions.
