FIVE RAMS HIGHLIGHT ATLANTIC 10 MEN'S TENNIS AWARDS
RICHMOND, Va. - VCU Men's Tennis saw five student-athletes receive Atlantic 10 Conference honors, the league announced on Monday afternoon.
German Samofalov and Alfred Almasi were named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team, and Freshmen Nicolo Consonni, Erwann Bouchet, and Leon Zaorski were named to the All-Atlantic 10 Second Team. Almasi also earned a spot on the All-Academic Team.
Senior German Samofalov received her first nod to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team. Playing on court one for the Rams, the Odessa, Ukraine native posted a singles record of 13-10 and a doubles record of 13-9, being paired mainly with Erwann Bouchet and Kostiatyn Mantach. Samofalov finished his season, winning seven of his last nine singles matches. This is his second straight year receiving end-of-season conference recognition, as last year he was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Second Team.
Alfred Almasi earned two end-of-season conference recognitions in his first season with VCU, as the Junior was named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team and Academic Team. Almasi posted a 13-3 singles record on the season, playing on courts two, three, four, five, and six, and an 8-8 doubles record, all coming on court three, mainly being paired with Leon Zaorski. The Trstice, Slovakia native, had a singles win streak high of seven this season and finished the season winning four straight matches.
Three freshmen, Nicolo Consonni, Erwann Bouchet, and Leon Zaorski, earned All-Atlantic 10 Second Team honors. Consonni, the Briosco, Italy native, won three singles matches on court two and seven doubles matches on court three. Bouchet posted an 8-9 singles record, appearing mainly on court three, and a 9-7 doubles record, with eight wins coming on court one. Zaorski, the Trabki Male, Poland native, finished the season with a 10-9 singles record, appearing on courts three, four, five, and six, and an 11-10 doubles record, with all 11 wins coming on court three.
