WOMEN’S TENNIS EARNS ITA ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM DISTINCTION
RICHMOND, Va. – For the eighth straight year, VCU women's tennis has been named an ITA All-Academic Team, while seven student-athletes earned ITA Scholar-Athlete designations.
Amelie Jewelewicz, Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando, Mariam Ibrahim, Sara Alba, Sofia Jane Thorne, Yelizaveta Karlova and Lea Malazdra were all named Scholar-Athletes after posting grade point averages of at least 3.5 over the current academic year.
Karlova capped her Rams career with a fourth straight Scholar-Athlete award, and Ibrahim earned the distinction for the second straight season. Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando, Ibrahim and Thorne each paired the academic honors with First Team All-Atlantic 10 selections, and Karlova was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10.
First year Head Coach Rifanty Kahfiani led the Rams to success both on and off the court, as the academic awards come after a season where VCU competed in the NCAA Championships. Kahfiani was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year after her success.
In order to be named an All-Academic Team, the Rams upheld a team GPA of 3.2 or above. VCU has been an ITA All-Academic Team each season since 2018.
