VCU’S MAX SHULGA NAMED ATLANTIC 10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Graduate guard averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds in pair of critical wins

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU graduate guard Max Shulga (Kyiv, Ukraine) has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week after leading the Rams to a pair of critical wins, the league announced Monday.

Shulga averaged 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting .667 (10-of-15) from the field to lead VCU past UMass and George Mason last week. The 6-foot-5 guard also knocked down 9-of-13 attempts from beyond the 3-point arc, as well as all 12 of his free throw attempts.

Behind Shulga's 22 points and five rebounds, VCU earned a 70-54 win over George Mason on Saturday to pull even with the Patriots atop the A-10 standings at 12-2. Shulga and the Rams have won six straight games and 12 of their past 13.

A First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection last season, Shulga is averaging 15.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game, while shooting .425 (57-of-134) from 3-point range in 2024-25 for VCU (22-5).

Shulga is the second Ram to collect the A-10's top weekly honor this season. Graduate guard Joe Bamisile (Chesterfield, Va.) was named the league's Player of the Week on Dec. 16.

VCU and Shulga will return to the floor on Tuesday, Feb. 25 when they meet rival Richmond in the Richmond Area Honda Dealers Capital City Classic at 7 p.m. at the Robins Center.
