TRIO OF RAMS POUR IN 20-PLUS AS VCU PULLS AWAY FROM GREYHOUNDS

The short story: Jack Clark, Joe Bamsile and Max Shulga became the first VCU trio to scored 20 points in the same game in 14 years, and the Rams stymied Loyola (Md.) in the second half on the way to a comfortable win Saturday night before a sellout crowd at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
OPENING TIP
- Clark led all players with 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, marking his sixth career game scoring over 20 points. Clark also added six rebounds, the third most for the Rams in today's contest.
- Shulga notched his sixth career double-double, scoring 20 points to accompany 10 rebounds. The graduate guard added a game-leading seven assists and five steals
- Bamisile scored 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go along with five rebounds. He drew seven fouls as well, leading to nine attempts at the free throw line.
- The Greyhounds were led by Braeden Speed and Milos Ilic who each scored 10 points.
THE DIFFERENCE
- VCU outscored Loyola 47-27 in the second half, shooting 60.7 percent (17-of-28) from the floor
- The Rams limited the Greyhounds to just 33 percent (19-of-57) shooting in the game, including 29 percent (8-of-28) in the second half
- Sparked by a Shulga steal and dunk, The Rams went on a 23-5 run in the second half that saw their lead extend to 64-38 with 7:32 remaining in the game.
- The Rams' stout defense held the Greyhounds to only 22 points in the paint. They also forced 17 turnovers, leading directly to 21 points
- The Black and Gold collected 12 offensive rebounds, leading to 17 second-chance points
NOTABLE
- Clark, Bamisile and Shulga are the first trio to score 20-plus in a VCU game since Brandon Rozzell (23), Joey Rodriguez (22) and Jamie Skeen (22) did so in a win over UNC Greensboro at the Siegel Center on Nov. 12, 2010
- The Rams' 4-0 start is their best since the beginning of the 2019-20 season, where they started 6-0
