JACOB LEE TABBED FIRST-TEAM FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICAN BY NCBWA

Lee becomes sixth Freshman All-American in last 10 seasons

RICHMOND, Va. – Jacob Lee's freshman season came to its on-field conclusion, but it's far from over for the first-year backstop as he earns first-team Freshman All-America honors, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced Monday.

Lee is joined by 33 other freshmen from 32 schools to comprise the 17-player first and second teams. The complete NCBWA release can be viewed here.

The Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year becomes the sixth Ram to earn the highly prestigious honor in the past 10 seasons, joining 2022 MLB Draft pick Tyler Locklear as the most recent.

In an incredible feat, Lee closed his campaign with a freshman-record 17th home run in the Rams' season finale at Massachusetts, overtaking Locklear's previous record of 16. The mark is the third-best single-season mark in program history.

Also breaking into the program's top 10 in RBI, his 65 runs batted in tied Eric Sauve' for the eighth-most in a single season.

He finished among the top 10 hitters in the Atlantic 10 in multiple categories, including fourth in home runs (17), ninth in RBI (65) and 10th in slugging percentage (.620). He paced the Rams with each of those marks while also finishing atop the team with 205 at-bats, 44 runs, two triples and 127 total bases.

Lee tied for the VCU lead with fellow first-year Nick Flores' 59 hits and sat among the top three with his 13 doubles and 27 walks. The freshman catcher notched 53 games, starting each of them, and missing just one contest, the second-most among his teammates.

He continues to build on an already impressive resume following his first year, earning A-10 Rookie of the Year, A-10 All-Conference Second Team, A-10 All-Rookie, two Rookie of the Week honors, a midseason Freshman All-America designation and his most recent ranking by D1Baseball as the No. 36 catcher in the country.
