LEE CAPS HISTORIC FRESHMAN SEASON WITH ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONOR

Catcher Jacob Lee broke the freshman home run record in the season finale

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU baseball freshman catcher Jacob Lee his second and the Rams' second weekly honor of the season as he was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week in the league's final weekly honors of the season, the A-10 announced Monday afternoon.

Lee had a three-home run weekend to break VCU's freshman home run record of 17, passing 2022 MLB Draft selection Tyler Locklear's 16. He also broke into the program's single-season top 10 with 65 total RBI, the most by a true freshman in program history.

Also taking home the accolade on April 28, the catcher becomes the first Ram with multiple A-10 baseball Rookie of the Week honors in the same season since Locklear's A-10 Player/Rookie of the Year campaign in 2021.

Lee spearheaded the Rams offense in their first sweep of the season, instrumental in VCU's high-offense series. The team had the most hits (40), runs (36) and homers (11) in the series this season at Massachusetts, going undefeated on the weekend for the first time this season.

The first-year led the team with a .455 batting average, .600 on-base percentage, 1.273 slugging percentage and a 1.873 OPS. He also paced the Rams with three home runs, eight RBI and three hit-by-pitches to lead VCU to its first weekend sweep of the season.

The Chesterfield, Va., native tied his career single-game high with a pair of home runs and six RBI in the series opener, and he reached base in every game of the weekend.

Had two multi-hit games, belting two home runs on Thursday and three hits on Saturday, to bring his team-leading total to 20 multi-hit games.
