Incoming freshman guard will vie for U19 World Cup roster spot

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU incoming freshman Nyk Lewis (Washington, D.C./Gonzaga HS) has been invited to the USA Basketball U19 National Training Camp this summer in Colorado Springs, Colo.

A 6-foot-1 guard, Lewis is one of 33 players who will vie for spots on the 12-man roster for the 2025 FIBA U19 Men's World Cup, which will take place June 28-July 6 in Switzerland.

Training camp will begin on June 14 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and the USA Men's U19 National roster will be announced prior to the team's departure for Lausanne, Switzerland on June 23.

A product of the prestigious Gonzaga College High School program in Washington, D.C., Lewis is the 55th-ranked recruit in the class of 2025, according 247Sports.com. He also starred for Team Takeover on the EYBL circuit.

Training camp participants recently concluded their freshman year of college or will represent the high school graduating classes of 2025 and 2026. Team selections will be made by the USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team Committee. The United States has won the FIBA U19 Men's World Cup eight times – as many as every other country combined – including the 2022 title in Latvia. Spain claimed the cup in 2023 over France.
