Thompson, who won two A10 Championships and mentored two 2024 MLB Draft picks as an assistant at VCU, was elevated to head coach in the offseason and kept two former Rams, JoJo Howie and Andrew Llewellyn, on staff.? They value giving back to their alma mater and encourage Ram Nation to help maintain the championship-level culture of VCU Baseball.
"The support and generosity is what makes VCU and the athletic department such a special community," Thompson said. "We always strive to better the student-athlete experience and with opportunities like Giving Day, we continue to make it a reality. The contributions mean so much to both the student-athletes and coaches and we say thank you to all supporters of VCU Athletics."
The coaching staff needs donor support to continue recruiting top-level talent and develop the Rams into a championship-level team. In Thompson's inaugural season as the head coach, his staff oversaw Jacob Lee as a Freshman All-American catcher. He leads the team with 32 hits, 32 RBI and eight home runs, while pitcher Owen Tappy ranks atop the A10 with just six walks allowed and second with 12 runs allowed over 31.2 innings pitched.
Providing unrivaled training resources and making continuous improvements to the Baseball Performance Center on campus will maintain VCU's position among the top baseball programs in the country. Donations on Giving Day provide funding for cutting-edge technology that enhances performance and recovery for baseball student-athletes at every position, thus giving VCU a competitive advantage on the recruiting trail.
For a program that prioritizes playing against the best during the regular season and making postseason appearances, first-class travel experiences are extremely important. Donor support provides an unmatched experience for VCU Baseball in the form of upgraded travel and healthy meals to fuel championship quests. Baseball student-athletes are committed to success in the classroom as well. Giving Day funds ensure they have all the tutoring and wellness tools necessary to be successful in their chosen career path following graduation.
"Giving Day is about supporting VCU athletes," senior pitcher Cade Dressler said. "Every donation helps us train and compete at a higher level. Because of your contributions, we can focus on reaching athletic and academic success."
