JACOB LEE NAMED ATLANTIC 10 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, ALL-CONFERENCE

Lee concludes his freshman season with a major A-10 award

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman catcher Jacob Lee etches three more lines next to his name in VCU baseball's history book, taking home Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, second-team All-Conference and All-Rookie honors, the league announced Wednesday.

Lee's impact on VCU baseball was immense and immediate, exhibited in part by his growing list of accolades.

The Chesterfield, Va., native was named the No. 36 catcher in the nation by D1Baseball, tabbed a midseason freshman All-America second team catcher by Perfect Game and earned the A-10 Rookie of the Week honor twice during his initial campaign.

In the series finale of his first weekend of collegiate competition, Lee knocked in the winning run, belting an eighth-inning go-ahead homer to lift VCU baseball to its first victory of the Coach Thompson era. And in the series finale of his final weekend as a first-year, the backstop launched his freshman-record 17th home run as a Ram, opening the door for VCU's weekend series sweep.

A .288 hitter, Lee drove in a team-high 65 runs, which is a top-10 mark in program history, and slugged .620 with 13 doubles, two triples and 17 home runs, the third-most in a single-season at VCU. He totaled 20 multi-hit games and drove in four or more runs in a contest seven separate times. With 59 hits on the year, he and freshman Nick Flores tied for the team lead.

Among Atlantic 10 competition, the catcher finished in the league's top 10 in slugging percentage, RBI and home runs.

Lee is the third Ram to earn a major award in the last five seasons, joining Brandon Eike, 2024 A-10 Player of the Year, and Tyler Locklear, 2021 A-10 Player and Rookie of the Year. He joins an elite group of former Rams to become the ninth freshman in program history to take home the Rookie of the Year title, and the fourth in VCU's Atlantic 10 history.
