Lee belted 14th homer and Campbell tossed 3.0 strong innings out of the bullpen

Score: Richmond 6, VCU 3
Location: Richmond, Va. (The Diamond)
Records: VCU 14-36 (7-19), Richmond 31-17 (12-14)

THE SHORT STORY: VCU baseball fell in the Atlantic 10 weekend series as Richmond used a three-run third inning to snap an early tie game, taking the Saturday contest 6-3.

LEADING OFF:

  • Jacob Lee, who leads the Rams in multi-hit games, had his first career three-hit game with a double and a home run, and drove in all three of the Rams' runs
  • Lee's 14th home run of the season tied him with Brandon Eike for sixth-most in a single season in program history
  • Trent Adelman was hit by his 21st pitch of the year, taking sole possession of sixth place in single-season program history
  • Nate Kirkpatrick tallied the Rams' other extra-base hit
  • Freshman right-hander Cooper Campbell produced three scoreless frames in relief, turning a 1-4-3 double play to end the top of the ninth and allowing just two hits
  • Riley Roarty was the pitcher of record for the Rams
  • Richmond head coach Mik Aoki tallied his 600th victory as a head coach in the contest

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Knotted up at two after the first inning, VCU's answer to an early two-run double by Richmond was blast to center field by Lee
  • Roarty held off the Spiders in a scoreless second inning before the visitors belted a big fly of their own and concluded the third frame with a 5-2 advantage
  • With a pair of doubles from Kirkpatrick and Lee, the Rams got across their final run of the contest
  • VCU loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth and got a pair of baserunners in the ninth, but fell to the visiting Spiders 6-3
